Narrative
SHALLOWATER, TX – A 64-year-old man died Friday in a head-on collision along the highway in western Lubbock County.
The incident occurred at 5:09 a.m. on US-84 near County Road 1400 in the city of Shallowater.
Police say a southbound 18-wheeler left the roadway briefly, re-entered US-84 southbound, and collided with a 2014 Hyundai Accent.
Authorities identified the driver of the Hyundai and the victim in the crash as Kevin Ortiz of Bovina.
The truck driver, identified as 41-year-old Salem Mohamed, was unhurt in the accident.
